About Global Disease Eradication Fund

Global Disease Eradication Fund

1,000 won (KRW) from every international flight ticket departing from Republic of Korea is donated to Global Disease Eradication Fund (GDEF), which is used for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases in low income countries.

Overview

Based on the Air-ticket solidarity levy system, Global Disease Eradication Fund is charged for every international flight ticket departing from Korea. It contributes to the prevention and eradication of infectious disease in developing countries, as well as to the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3, Good Health and Well-Being.

Monterrey Consensus adopted for securing additional financial resources for development at the International Conference on Financing for Development (Monterrey, Mexico)

2005
New York Declaration adopted to urge the innovative development of financial resources, including the Air-ticket Solidarity Levy, at the UN summit

2006
Korean Government Participated in the "Leading Group on the Innovative Financing for Development“

2007
Korean Government assumed the chairmanship of the "Leading Group on Innovative Financing for Development" and hosted the 3rd General Assembly (Seoul)

Introduced the "Global Poverty Eradication Contribution(GPEC)" as part of the Air-ticket Solidarity Levy(For five years only)

Five-year extension bill of GPEC passed by the National Assembly

GPEC converted into GDEF in accordance with the Act and Enforcement Decree on the Global Disease Eradication Fund
