The project was initiated in response to frequent floods and property damages/casualties caused by typhoons visiting the Philippines over 20 times per year on average. It is designed to raise the accuracy of flood forecasts and to quickly alert the public for safe evacuation.

As a result of the project, it is now possible to predict and analyze the real time data of rivers in the Greater Metro Manila region, and through disaster prevention workshops and evacuation trainings, it is expected that the property loss and casualties would be reduced.

Along with the preceding project "Establishment of Early Warning and Response System for Disaster Mitigation in Metro Manila (2010-2012)", the forecast system and equipment provided through this project was highly evaluated by the Philippines government as the part of its efforts to expand and enhance nation-wide flood prediction services for the general public.
