The capacity building project for the Judicial Training School in Vietnam (2013-2017/9.45 million USD)KOICA contributes to the fair and neutral application of law to create a just society where human rights are secured.
Expand facilities in the Judical Training School and prepare judiciary training system
The project was carried out for 5 years (2013-2017), targeting all judiciary civil officials for training, with an aim to raise the effectiveness of "Judicial Reform Strategy 2020" of the Vietnamese government, which underlined the importance of support for the advancement of trainings for judges. Through this project, 5 buildings (9,626 m2), including a library, lecture building, mock court, auditorium and office building were constructed, and a number of seminars for lecturers, joint symposiums, and short- to mid-term invitation training sessions were provided. It has contributed to active legislative exchanges between Korea and Vietnam.
What we do
Advancing judicial training school to a court academy with the approval of the Vietnamese government
As the training school was elevated to the court academy, the bachelor's degree program has been newly opened as part of the academy’s advanced functions. Also, the external evaluation has observed the improvement of judges' competencies and the quality of written judgment which led to a drop in the percentage of reversing verdicts.
In the past, training sessions with only a small group of participants were held due to the low number of independent training facilities under Vietnam's Supreme People's Court. But the establishment of the judicial training academy made it possible to initiate large-scale training sessions for judges, enabling intensive capacity building. Trainees who participated in various sessions and seminars are showing a strong trend in effective application of lessons learned from the training programs into their lectures and research papers.
