Public Awareness Campaign callenging "Change Yourself, Not the Climate"
Public Awareness Campaign Climate Change was held on September 1 with the financial support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Office in Azerbaijan and the KOICA Azerbaijani Alumni Association, with the organizational support of the Ministry of Education and the Republican Children and Youth Development Center.
The main goal of the event, calling everyone to "Change Yourself, Not the Climate", was to enhance the environmental knowledge of children, form special skills in environmental culture and environmental protection area in order to combat climate change, protect environment, ensure equal education and social protection in the background of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were reflected in the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and accepted by the world leaders at the UN's historic summit in September 2015.
The event, which was held at the Art Gallery of the Children and Youth Development Center N1 under the Ministry of Education, were attended by the residents of the orphanages and boarding schools, as well as, little members of the Center. Selection of participants with different social status aimed to support the social integration of children deprived of parental care.
The event was also attended by the governmental officials who participated at the KOICA trainings in Korea in different years.
Country Director of the KOICA Azerbaijan Office - Ms.Park Kumok, the Head of the Division at the Department of Organization of Extracurricular Activities of the Ministry of Education - Ms. Ayla Hasanova, Director of the Republican Children-Youth Development Center of the Ministry of Education - Ms. Firuza Sultan-zade, Head of Educator's Professional Development Institute of the Ministry of Education and President of the KOICA Alumni Association - Ms. Vafa Yagublu, Leading Engineer of the Technical Support Department at Azersu OJSC - Mr. Nizami Osmanov made presentations and speeches on environmental protection and climate change awareness.
At the event, the children got closely acquainted with the characters of cartoons and watched a short movie about environmental protection. At the same time, during the event several activities were organized such as turning children’s ideas on protection of environment to drawings, coloring eco-bags and face-art on protection of environment. At the end of the event the children presented their designed eco-bags. Through understanding the importance of protection of environment, children challenged everyone to save water, plant trees and reduce waste.
